Simulation Partner makes flow simulation more accessible and valuable for businesses

After more than 20 years in the automotive industry, Kim Andersson decided to pursue his own idea. He is now launching a digital product that automates the creation of simulation models, enabling companies to evaluate production flows before making major investments.

After two decades with the same employer in the automotive industry, Kim Andersson took the leap and started his own company in 2023. Through Simulation Partner, he began working as a consultant for the Swedish manufacturing industry. At the same time, he identified a gap in the market in how flow simulation services were delivered, and an idea for an entirely new digital product began to take shape.

Years of experience laid the foundation

Through a project during one of his consulting assignments, Kim came into contact with Science Park Skövde's startup program. Shortly afterwards, development of the digital product gained momentum.

“My career at Volvo Powertrain began in maintenance in 2002, where I held several different technical and leadership roles. In 2017, I moved into the engineering organization to focus exclusively on flow simulation, with responsibility both locally in Skövde and globally. That experience, combined with my ambition to make this type of analysis accessible to more manufacturing companies, led me to fully commit to the idea,” says Kim Andersson, Flow Simulation Expert and Founder of Simulation Partner.

What Kim has created is an automated process, called “Model Creator”, that quickly builds simulation models based on data entered by customers online.

Smarter decisions start with simulation

Since January 2025, the focus has been on product development. Kim has created an automated process, called “Model Creator”, that quickly builds simulation models based on data entered by customers online. This digital product, in turn, enables Simulation Partner to offer simulation services through fast, fixed-scope “Product Packages”.

“The platform I have created currently helps companies, primarily in the manufacturing industry, to easily evaluate their production flows through our Product Packages. At the same time, there is also enormous demand within warehousing and internal logistics, which we currently address through tailored projects. Regardless of the approach, the goal is to lower the barrier so that more companies can test their flows before making major decisions,” Kim explains.

Expert support integrated into the packages for better results

“It could involve simulating a new production line before making a multimillion investment, or identifying bottlenecks in existing production. I see great value in enabling companies to make more informed decisions with the help of simulation.”

Simulation Partner's services are sold through the company's website in the form of different Product Packages. Rather than simply selling software, the packages provide a complete service powered behind the scenes by Kim's digital product. They include not only the technical simulation itself, but also personal expert support to help define input data, interpret the results, and develop recommendations.

“My digital product allows us to generate models extremely quickly. That means we can focus much more of our time on helping customers understand why things happen in their production processes and how they can make smarter decisions. Our unique expertise lies in identifying both challenges and opportunities, and customers are always guided through the results. For more complex needs, we also offer tailored projects where we use our own powerful standard library to speed up the analysis,” Kim explains.

Valuable support throughout the startup journey

Since 2024, Simulation Partner's digital product has been part of Science Park Skövde's startup program. Through the program, Kim has received support from business coaches who have acted as sounding boards and helped him develop both the business and his skills as an entrepreneur.

“I've received great support from the coaches at Science Park Skövde. Among other things, I've had the opportunity to practise pitching my idea, which has been really valuable. They've helped me start thinking like a startup and have always been available, no matter what questions have come up.”

He encourages other tech companies to make use of the resources available to them.

“I definitely recommend that other tech startups take advantage of the opportunities available at Science Park Skövde. Another important piece of advice is to start working on your idea as early as possible, because everything takes longer than you think. Also, try to surround yourself with people who have different skills and expertise from your own. It brings new perspectives and strengthens the development process.”

A journey that has only just begun

Kim Andersson is optimistic about the future and sees significant potential for the company's product and services to transform the industry.

“The first milestone is to get more companies to discover how easy it is to order flow simulation through our Product Packages. For both smaller and larger companies, simulating an investment decision before committing to it can make an enormous financial difference. The opportunities within flow simulation are huge, and I feel that this is only the beginning,” Kim concludes.
