In the fall of 2024, CEO Danielle Karlsson pitched LingoLooper on Swedish TV’s Dragons’ Den.

The startup LingoLooper (formerly Lumi Labs), the company behind a language learning app often described as “The Sims with AI for language training”, has just closed its second investment round. The focus is now on the next exciting step in the company’s journey.

“With this investment, we can now accelerate our growth, continue developing our product to maximize long-term value for our subscribers, and strengthen our position as a leading player in AI-powered language learning,” says Danielle Karlsson, CEO and co-founder of LingoLooper.

“The round closed incredibly fast”

Investor interest was strong – from both existing owners and new stakeholders. LingoLooper’s rapid user and sales growth has made it particularly attractive in the market.

“I think investors were primarily drawn to our market-validated, innovative product with global reach. But more than anything, it was the belief in our team and our proven ability to deliver strong results that created real interest and trust,” says Danielle.

The company is currently participating in the Science Park Skövde startup program and has previously received support from business coaches – something Danielle believes has helped streamline the process.

“This round moved incredibly quickly and was closed in record time thanks to the strong investor interest. We also received amazing support from our business coach in earlier rounds, which definitely helped simplify and accelerate the process this time around!”

A loyal and engaged user base

LingoLooper launched a year ago on the App Store and has since experienced impressive growth. Today, the app has more than 200,000 users across 49 countries, an average rating of 4.9, and thousands of glowing reviews.

“It’s been an incredible journey – an emotional rollercoaster for us. Recently, we’ve grown rapidly and built a strong, engaged, and loyal user base. It’s also been hugely rewarding to receive feedback and develop the product in close collaboration with our users – something we’ll definitely continue doing moving forward.”

The reason users keep coming back to LingoLooper is simple.

“Our users often say they love how fun and lifelike it feels to talk to the avatars – it’s like having real conversations with real people, but without the pressure or stress of making mistakes. It’s a completely new approach, grounded in real-life interaction, and you can really see the difference in users’ language development. After just a few days, they speak with newfound confidence and fluency.”

2025 will be an exciting year

Backed by the new investment, several updates are in store for LingoLooper.

“In 2025, we’ll introduce several highly requested features and languages. Our avatars will get even more personality and a visual makeover, and we’ll continue to expand LingoLooper’s virtual world – and much more. By summer, we’ll move out of early access and launch version 1.0 – so stay in the loop,” Danielle concludes.
