Games took center stage at GoWest – Science Park Skövde showcased the Swedish games wonder
For the first time, the Swedish games wonder had a well-deserved spot at GoWest, with Science Park Skövde in the spotlight delivering a talk that offered a unique glimpse into how game studios are built and run. Investors also received valuable insights into what they should keep in mind to succeed in one of Sweden’s most dynamic industries — often referred to these days as the country’s new base industry.
During the presentation, Science Park Skövde delved into the history of Swedish games, showing how Skövde has evolved into one of the nation’s strongest hubs for game development. Since its inception, Science Park Skövde—through Sweden Game Arena—has helped game studios move from initial ideas to successful launches. Participants received concrete tips on everything from scalable business models to what to consider as an investor.
“Backed by several success stories—from small independent studios to major international ventures—Skövde has established itself as one of Sweden’s strongest games clusters. We wanted to share our insights and highlight the ongoing growth across the entire Swedish games scene,” said Marcus Toftedahl, Project Manager for Level Up at Science Park Skövde.
GoWest is an annual event that brings together entrepreneurs, investors, and other key players in innovation and growth. The fact that games were now on the agenda highlights how significant the industry has become for both Swedish culture and business.
“We’re proud that, for the first time, games had a dedicated spot at GoWest and that we could showcase the success of Swedish game development. We hope more people will discover the business opportunities in this rapidly expanding sector,” said Anna Emanuelsson, Business Developer with a focus on funding at Science Park Skövde.
By shining a light on the Swedish games wonder and sharing hands-on experiences, Science Park Skövde hopes more investors, entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders will recognize the power and potential of one of Sweden’s most creative and fast-growing industries. Games have now finally taken their rightful place at GoWest—and the future looks bright for both developers and investors.
