Startups from Science Park Skövde’s startup program have attracted millions of external venture capital, fueling their launch and growth. Anna Emanuelsson, Business Coach at Science Park Skövde, is thrilled with these companies’ successes over the years.

What is the recipe for startup success? At Science Park Skövde, hundreds of companies have launched, benefiting from their startup program, where experienced business coaches provide support and connect founders with valuable networks. This program has propelled various companies, from globally recognized gaming companies to tech firms, on their development journeys.

According to Anna Emanuelsson, successful companies that have been part of the program share some common characteristics.

“These are people with advanced expertise, a high level of competence, and a lot of drive, which accelerates their progress toward the market. Investors notice that immediately. They’re investing not only in the company’s product or service but also in the people behind it,” she explains.

Anna works as a business coach within Science Park Skövde’s startup program, specializing in investment and financing.

“My role involves supporting companies directly with financing matters. This could mean showing them how to calculate their capital needs, prepare solid materials for investor meetings, and create sustainable budgets. Part of my role also focuses internally on improving how we support companies within the startup program,” she says.

Would you say companies entering the program have substantial financial knowledge?

“It varies. Some come directly from school and may not have studied finance at all, instead being experts in areas like development. They may need extensive help. Others are more financially self-sufficient but may need help with networking or other areas. We assess their needs and provide support accordingly.”

Anyone Can Achieve Their Dream

But it’s not necessary to be a student or even be active in the field in which you want to launch your startup. To apply to the program, all that’s required is a solid idea with potential for development and a team capable of building the product or service on which the business concept is based.

“You can even work a day job while developing your business within the program. We offer online materials, making it possible to progress at your own pace. It lowers the barrier to applying. If you’re a visionary with a dream idea, you’re in the right place here. You’ll work on product or service development, and we’ll support your business development,” Anna says.

In recent years, millions in investment capital have been awarded to companies that got their start in Science Park Skövde’s startup program. Aurora Arts, ForceHT, and Lumi Labs are just a few recent examples.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to follow companies making big strides and attracting investor interest. There’s still capital available, but risk tolerance has dropped, meaning more pieces must be in place to secure an investment. It’s become more challenging, requiring thorough preparation to make it all the way,” she concludes.
