On Tuesday, Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand visited Science Park Skövde to gain deeper insight into Swedish game development and how Skövde has grown into one of the country’s key hubs for game companies.

During her visit, the Minister met with entrepreneurs who are part of Sweden Game Startup, Science Park Skövde’s program for aspiring game founders. She took the opportunity to ask questions about the kinds of game ideas being developed in Skövde, how they reach global markets, and what makes Swedish game development stand out internationally.

“From Skövde’s perspective, it’s about the ecosystem that’s been built here — with support from the University of Skövde, Science Park Skövde, and the established studios in the city — but also the close-knit community that’s developed over the years. Instead of seeing each other as competitors, we help and lift one another,” says Ellinor Bergman, CEO of Speldosa Interactive.

The Minister also got a closer look at what game development looks like in practice.

“Game development involves a range of creative processes — design, art, storytelling, and music production. The industry employs a large number of people in Sweden. In the government’s strategy for the cultural and creative industries, we emphasize the importance of giving the games industry the right conditions to support its continued growth,” says Parisa Liljestrand, Minister for Culture.

Science Park Skövde would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the visit and looks forward to continuing the dialogue on how to jointly strengthen the Swedish games industry.
