More applicants than ever for this year's DONNA DAY
That gender equality in the gaming industry is an important issue is evident not least in the number of applications to DONNA DAY, which is being arranged for the fifth year in a row in connection with the Sweden Game Conference.
The DONNA network, founded at the University of Skövde, works to make gaming education and the gaming industry more equal. The work will result in an equal gaming culture and gaming industry where women and men can participate and contribute on equal terms. For the fifth year in a row, DONNA is arranging the DONNA DAY networking event in connection with the Sweden Game Conference, in which both students and professionals in the gaming industry participate.
Overwhelming interest
This year the DONNA DAY is more popular than ever and has more than doubled the number of applicants from last year. Over 120 applications, 80 gaming students and 20 mentors will be included for two days where DONNA DAY focuses on gender equality in the industry and challenges that await gaming students as they enter the job market.
– We are overwhelmed by how much interest DONNA DAY generates. I think there are several synergistic reasons for this. We have a generous and attractive offer, we have several interesting gaming companies that support us, we have a good reputation through our previous participants and mentors and, not least, because the restrictions finally ease, says Jenny Brusk, founder of DONNA and innovation advisor and business coach at Science Park Skövde.
Jenny also believes that gender equality in the gaming industry is a highly topical issue, and where DONNA DAY is an important sounding board for exchanging experiences and lessons, not least among students who will soon enter the labor market.
Strong partners
This year, new partners have also been added to DONNA. These include MindArk, DICE and CCP Games. Coffee Stain Studios and Star Stable Entertainment are already partners.
– We are so proud to collaborate with Donna Day for the fifth year in a row. At Star Stable Entertainment, we strive to put women in focus with all our entertainment, from artists on our record label, to our employees where we currently have 54% who identify as women. We share our core values with DONNA DAY and we are proud to support a progressive and effective event that aims to open the doors for more talented women in the gaming industry, says Ina Berntsson, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Star Stable Entertainment.
Jenny Brusk believes that DONNA DAY would not have gotten real without partners and mentors.
- Some have been involved from the very beginning, such as Coffee Stain Studios and Star Stable Entertainment. It is very satisfying that DONNA has grown with additional strong partners, which makes it possible to offer free participation for all students. We design the program for DONNA DAY together with our mentors who do a fantastic job of preparing students for working life, says Jenny Brusk.
