Smoofit develops solution for electricity price-optimised pool heating

Smoofit is the company behind the pool industry’s first solution for automatic, electricity price-optimised control of pool heat pumps.
“We’ve handled all parts of the development – from the hardware and its software to the app that our client provides to their customers,” explains Johan Torstensson, CTO at Smoofit.
The Science Park-based company offers a range of services, expertise, and solutions with one clear focus: making their customers’ products smarter.
“We founded the company in 2014 and our core business is developing hardware and software solutions that enable our customers’ products, sensors, and machines to communicate – both with each other and with the user,” says Torstensson.
Smart and cost-efficient pool heating
One of the company’s latest projects is a collaboration with Gullberg & Jansson, a market leader in energy-efficient heat pumps, focused on reducing pool heating costs. The partnership has resulted in G&J SmartGrid – the first solution in the pool industry that automatically controls pool heating based on current electricity prices.
“Together with Gullberg & Jansson, we’re responsible for the design, development, and production of the entire system. That ensures both high quality and innovative technology,” says Torstensson.
The solution integrates real-time data from the electricity market to optimise when and how a pool is heated, giving end users maximum comfort at the lowest possible energy cost. It is used together with a mobile application where users can easily set their electricity price zone and desired pool temperature.
“All you need is an hourly or quarter-hourly electricity contract and one of Gullberg & Jansson’s heat pumps,” Torstensson explains.

For years, smart home technology has been associated mainly with home heating, appliances, and lighting. With this new solution, pool owners can now enjoy new levels of efficiency and control.
“We use artificial intelligence to automatically and continuously analyse electricity prices in real time and adjust accordingly. The only thing the user needs to decide is the desired temperature, and set it in the app. This is a great example of the type of solutions we develop – always with the end user’s needs in focus,” Torstensson concludes.
