Volvo Group Establishes New Battery Assembly Lab at ASSAR

During the spring of 2025, Volvo Group will take the next step in developing the sustainable powertrains of the future by establishing a battery assembly method lab at ASSAR Industrial Innovation Arena in Skövde. This initiative will create new collaboration opportunities for the companies and organizations operating within ASSAR.
The goal of Volvo’s investment is to develop and verify new methods, processes, and technologies for battery assembly and prototype manufacturing. For industrial and technology companies in Skaraborg, as well as for academia, the method lab will serve as a platform for close collaboration, allowing partners to develop and test new battery assembly techniques. This initiative also opens up opportunities for joint projects.
Developing the Future of Battery Assembly in Skövde
The method lab is part of Volvo's broader strategy for sustainable powertrains and electrification, focusing on developing innovative assembly methods and strengthening expertise in battery technology.
"ASSAR has played an important role in our development and will continue to be a central part of our future. Through collaboration with academia and industry partners, we are creating an environment where we can experiment, analyze, and find the best solutions for battery assembly. This investment not only strengthens our competitiveness but also reinforces Skövde’s position as a leading hub for industrial development," says Peter Furhoff, Technology Manager at Volvo Group Skövde.
Collaboration that Benefits Society
